It’s two months now since my last report. We were looking at getting into the swing of things as the Government relaxed its rules enabling us to get out and play some golf. Unfortunately since then I don’t think it’s stopped raining, until the last few days.
On the course, after a few problems with flooding etc, we’ve started to see improvements on the greens and fringes, and once the warmer weather enhances growth we’ll no doubt see more definition in the fairways and semi rough.
Competitions are underway, and again some have fallen foul of the weather, but going forward into the season it would be great to see more entrants.
The new League season started in early May and up until today (1/6/21), we have won two and lost two. We also lost out on a closely fought Clark Cup match (2-3), against first division opposition in Chester Le Street. The up and coming League fixtures are:-
Tuesday 8/6 Hobson Away
Tuesday 15/6 G. Washington Home
Tuesday 22/6 South Moor Home
Tuesday 29/6 Crook Away
All games tee off between 5-6pm and it would be great to see more people supporting the lads in their push for promotion to the first division.
As many of you will already know congratulations to John Kennedy on winning the Durham County Matchplay Championship. An absolutely fantastic achievement for John, and as the records show, coming some 25 years after his first win in that competition……..Well Done John!
Finally, I’d like to mention that my Captains Day will be on Saturday 24th July. A full day of golf followed by a presentation and entertainment from band ‘Dog in a Box’. Hope to see everyone involved and enjoy the evening. All are welcome.
As always, stay safe. And I forward to seeing everyone out and about.
